The original video was purportedly posted by YouTuber Screenz on his Instagram amid the Diddy Lawsuits based on accusations against rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs. A sped-up and slowed-down version of the sound trended en masse on TikTok going into mid-2024.

Origin

Sometime in May 2024, YouTuber Screenz posted a video to Instagram (since deleted) in which he reacted to the documentary TMZ Presents: The Downfall of Diddy on his TV screen. In the video, he says, "I'm tryna cook some food, why they recommending me Diddy? Cuh, they- Presents to you The Downfall of Diddy. Bro, I'm over here tryna cook some meat and they showing me the meat master." Screenz reposted the video to his TikTok^[1] account @screenz_lol on June 6th, 2024, gaining over 1.6 million plays and 323,500 likes in four days (shown below).

The video went viral because it was screen-recorded and reposted by TikToker^[2] @mt3.ae on May 27th, 2024, who sped up and slowed down the audio. Over two weeks, the video gained roughly 3.7 million plays and 652,800 likes (shown below).

The video's TikTok sound^[3] amassed significant usage going into mid-2024. For instance, on June 1st, 2024, TikToker^[4] @_samzchillz_85 used the sound and showed the documentary on a gym TV screen, gaining over 1.1 million plays and 213,500 likes in nine days (shown below, left).

Also on June 1st, TikToker^[5] @skumboylife1 posted a similar video, joking about getting food and then seeing the documentary on his screen, receiving roughly 2.1 million plays and 384,000 likes in nine days (shown below, right).

The original video also gained vial reposts on Instagram^[6] in early June 2024.

On June 5th, 2024, TikToker^[7] @theonlymarblerace8 posted a marble race video that pinned The Downfall of Diddy against the Your Final Challenge meme, gaining over 1.1 plays and 169,300 likes in five days (shown below).
