About

The Deathbulge Party Saga is a webcomic by the British artist Dan Martin (a.k.a. Deathbulge), which features various people showing up to a party and kicking open the door over the course of 12 hours. Online, edited versions of the comic often feature a row in which a man opens the door, discovers something disturbing and promptly exists the room.

Origin

On May 19th, 2017, Deathbulge released tweeted out a series of comics in which various characters show up to a party where various bizarre events occur.[2] The series was subsequently posted on the Deathbulge website under the title "The Deathbulge Party Saga."[1]

Spread

On May 20th, 2017, Redditor Arlene_Morison submitted the series in a post titled "The Deathbulge Party" to /r/comics,[3] where it gathered upwards of 14,900 points (82% upvoted) and 300 comments within two months. On May 23, Deathbulge released the series on Facebook.[6]. On May 25th, YouTuber Dr White uploaded a narrated version of the comic (shown below).

On July 28th, Redditor Canadaba11 submitted a three-pane green screen template using a portion of the comic to /r/MemeEconomy,[5] which accumulated more than 1,100 points (98% upvoted) and 20 comments within four days (shown below).

The following day, the @dank__memes[4] Instagram feed posted a version of the comic in which a man walks into a party and discovers a furry holding a Minecraft pickaxe (shown below, left). Also on July 29th, Redditor HayItsProsandwich submitted a September 11th, 2001 attack-themed edit to /r/MemeEconomy, where it received upwards of 4,600 points (84% upvoted) and 80 comments over the next 72 hours.
