The Dallas Cowboys Cycle refers to an Endless Cycle image macro showing the Dallas Cowboys team cycle during an NFL season from the start to the playoffs. The flowchart became a prominent meme around January 2022 on Facebook and is often brought back every football season.
Origin
The earliest known post of the Dallas Cowboys cycle meme was posted by the Facebook[5] meme page NFL Memes on July 9th, 2019. The image shows the cycle of the Dallas Cowboys team when a new championship season starts (shown below, left). The post amassed more than 2,300 likes and 1,300 retweets in five years.
On January 17th, 2022, the same page[1] shared a new version of the Endless Cycle meme, which was created by user @GhettoGronk.[2] The post (shown below, right) amassed over 25,000 likes and 12,000 shares in two years.
Spread
The Dallas Cowboys cycle meme became a recurring joke on social media every new NFL season in subsequent years. For instance, on December 6th, 2022, Facebook[3] user NFL Memes shared the Dallas Cowboys cycle image (shown below, left) and added a "We are here" red circle focusing on the "We Dem Boyz, this is our year!" caption. The post amassed more than 7,400 likes and 1,800 retweets in two years.
On January 14th, 2024, X[4] user @NFL_Memes posted the same image adding a "We are here" red circle focusing on the "choke in the playoffs" cycle, which received more than 54,000 likes and 8,900 retweets in a day.
