About

The Burning House[1] is a single-topic blog where people can submit photographs of personal items they would save from their house if it were on fire.

Origin

The first post was made on May 1st, 2011 when blogger Foster Huntington[2] posted his collection[3] of items including a shirt that belonged to his grandfather, a shell from Nicaragua and an external hard drive with his photography on it. Users have continued to submit images in the same style, providing their name, age, location, occupation, and a text list of the items in the photograph.

Spread

The month the blog began, many arts and fashion blogs covered the site including Trendland[4], Hypebeast[5], and the Hairpin.[6] Over the next few months, the site was also covered by GQ[7] and the UK Telegraph.[8] The Facebook fan page[9] for the site has over 5900 likes. Over the course of 2011, the blog has published between 26 and 60 posts a month.
