The Bowl of Chocolate Strawberries TikTok refers to a viral video on TikTok showing a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries on a bed, set to the song "What You Won’t Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell akin to the I Guess You Wonder Where I've Been Trend of filming food. The video achieved mass virality, racking up more than 174 million plays in less than a month. In turn, users created content that referenced the bowl of chocolate strawberries, joking about its virality by humorously undermining its simple subject matter.
Origin
On February 5th, 2024, TikToker[1] @pr4yforgabs posted a video showing a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries on a bed, filmed with the flash-on to the song "What You Won’t Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell, centering on the opening lyrics "I guess you wonder where I've been." In 17 days, the video amassed over 174.6 million plays and 25.9 million likes (shown below).
Three days before @pr4yforgabs' video, on February 2nd, 2024, TikToker[2] @eyoorenii posted an almost identical video of chocolate-covered strawberries with Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won’t Do for Love," gaining over 26.2 million plays and 3.6 million likes 20 days. However, @pr4yforgabs' video would become more well-known as the "Bowl of Chocolate Strawberries" TikTok.
Spread
As the video of the chocolate strawberries went increasingly viral, TikTokers began referencing the phenomenon in their content. An early, viral reaction was posted by TikToker[3] @hallehallle on February 15th, 2024, in which she said, "This app does not make sense," gaining over 4.6 million plays and 733,400 likes in a week (shown below, left).
Also on February 15th, 2024, TikToker[4] @katieritchiie posted a skit, imagining what the cameraperson looked like, receiving over 36.1 million plays and 3.9 million likes in a week (shown below, right).
As awareness of the video's high view count spread, some started to compare it to other famously viral posts, debating if the Chocolate Strawberries TikTok could usurp any records. For instance, on February 17th, 2024, TikToker[5] @clionighallchoir compared the chocolate strawberries to the World Record Egg, receiving over 3.6 million plays and 662,400 likes in five days (shown below, left).
On February 21st, 2024, TikToker[6] @mi_b0oo compared the strawberries to Bella Poarch's "M to the B" video (the most-liked video on TikTok), gaining over 268,600 plays and 1,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
