Memes and other viral posts about drinking The Bob or watching The Bob when people expected the subject to be doing something else, like studying, trended in 2025. The joke originates from a 2023 TikTok video. As the meme evolved, internet users shared posts about other drinks using the likenesses of SpongeBob SquarePants characters. For instance, the Patrick Star drink was called "The Rick" and the Squidward Tentacles drink was called "The Ward." Others used the phrasal template Teach Think I'm X, Whole Time I'm Watching the Y to joke about slacking by watching other TV shows and movies.

On June 30th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @eurotriple posed a video of someone picking up a SpongeBob SquarePants "party drink" that was colored yellow and had SpongeBob's face on it. The video's text overlay caption read, "The Bob got me crunk." Over two years, the video received over 917,800 likes.

On September 11th, 2025, TikToker^[2] @twizzytwizzler1 shared a video of themself watching SpongeBob in class with the caption, "Teach think I'm doing my work whole time I'm watching sponge," gaining over 34,400 likes in 15 days.

On September 12th, TikToker^[3] @ball.right shared a video that used a FlightReacts template, showing the streamer watching SpongeBob with a caption about "teach" questioning the subject about "67 missing assignments" but the student has "been watching the Bob the whole semester." Over two weeks, the video received over 21,400 likes.

On September 17th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @diddyblud1000 shared a video that instead joked about watching "the Park," as in South Park, gaining over 36,200 likes in nine days.

On September 21st, TikToker^[5] @jamwaynedisciple shared a photo that showed a SpongeBob bottled drink with the caption, "Mom thinks I'm drinking alcohol whole time I'm guzzling up a Bobby," gaining over 258,900 likes in five days.

On September 23rd, 2025, TikToker^[6] @toaster3318 shared a similar photo meme, showing three bottled drinks based on SpongeBob SquarePants characters. The text overlay caption read, "Mom thinks I'm drinking water but I'm really drinking the Bob, the Ward, AND the Rick." Over three days, the post received roughly 121,300 likes.
