The 10,000 Years Hiatus / Ichikawa's PS5, refers to memes related to the undefined hiatus of the Houseki no Kuni manga. The nickname originated from the quote seen at the end of the latest chapter: "Have a pleasant ten thousand years!" The majority of the memes about said hiatus involve jokes regarding Haruko Ichikawa, the author of the Houseki no Kuni manga, having obtained a PlayStation 5 right before the hiatus started.

Origin

On December 22nd, 2020, the hiatus of Houseki no Kuni was announced, three days before the release of chapter 95. Once chapter 95 came out, readers expressed worries regarding the "Have a pleasant 10,000 years" quote, as the hiatus seemed to go on much longer than originally expected. Some theorized that the hiatus was the author's attempt to give the readers a grasp of the sensation of extreme and stressing boredom faced by the characters in the current point of the story. Others noticed that the author had just obtained her PS5 also caught the attention of the readers.

Despite being an inside joke from a relatively small fandom, it took little time for both the "10,000-year hiatus" and "Ichikawa playing on her PS5" to become the subject of memes among the series fans. On December 25th, the same day as the chapter 95 release, YouTube Channel Jaakko Järvinen posted a short meme video regarding the looming hiatus. As of writing time, the video has 8,275 views, 637 likes and 69 comments.

Later that month, Redditor u/Catsu55 posted an edit^[1] on r/LandOfTheLustrous that consisted of a merge between the character Adamant Kongo-Sensei and a PS5, the post has received 780 upvotes (shown below, left). In April of 2021, u/Radon0000 posted a meme on r/LandofTheLustrous^[2] regarding the hiatus, utilizing the Trade Offer format (shown below, right).

The same month, u/Glaciarie posted a meme on r/LandofTheLustrous^[3] regarding the hiatus, while utilizing the Are Ya Winning Son? format. The post received 567 points (shown below).

On August 5th, 2021, YouTube Channel Diamond Eclectic posted a meme regarding the hiatus, utilizing the To Be Continued… format, alongside a scene from the anime adaptation of the manga.
