That's An Awfully Hot Coffee Pot is the opening line to a freestyle performed by rapper Eminem as part of his "Anti-Trump Freestyle" shown on BET during Donald Trump's first year as President. In the years following the freestyle, the line has continued to be used as both a meme and a reference to the perception that Eminem is "falling off" due to the contrast between it and early-career Eminem lines.

Origin

On October 10th, 2017, BET Network released a freestyle^[1] performed by Eminem at the Hip Hop Awards, as a furthering of protests that had begun shortly following Donald Trump becoming the President. In the freestyle, Eminem ponders if he should drop the "awfully hot coffee pot" on Donald Trump, before also rapping about Obama and what he believes the future will be like. The video of the freestyle, uploaded to YouTube, gained over 55 million views in seven years (shown below).

On December 31st, 2020, TikToker nathanlust^[2] became one of the first content creators on the platform to use the audio as part of a joke. In the skit, nathanlust approaches a coffee pot while saying that he likes coffee, before grabbing it and being burned by it. The skit ends with Nathan turning to the camera and having the scene transition to Eminem reciting his line, which earned over 1.7 million likes in four years (shown below).

One month later, on January 29th, 2021, TikToker irvingzun^[3] uploaded a TikTok in which he took the original setup by nathanlust and translated the punchline into Spanish, without having the Eminem transition. This type of subversion of the line was also matched by the TikToker puck_yourself^[4] the following day, who uploaded a version in which instead of talking about a hot coffee pot, Eminem was talking about hearing someone fart (shown below, left and right).

The line continued to be changed while seeing usage in memes going into the following year. On July 14th, 2022, TikToker midwestcrisis93^[5] uploaded a variation in which the original line is maintained but edited down to only have Eminem say "That's Coffee," which was used with a caption to explain what "dirty bean water" is (shown below).
