That Should Be Me is a series of TikTok videos in which users implement the green screen effect to place themselves next to their celebrity crushes in various photos to the 2011 Justin Beiber song "That Should Be Me." The videos gained popularity in August 2019 with celebrity-centered crushes and they evolved to feature photographs of fellow TikTokers.
Origin
On August 10th, 2019, @michaelsolari posted a video in which he placed himself in photographs with fellow TikToker @avani (shown below). The video gained over 146,900 likes and 3,600 shares in five days.
Spread
On August 13th @marlenasojka uploaded the most popular iteration involving photos of Justin Bieber (shown below, left). The video gained over 677,600 likes and 13,200 shares in two days. That same day, other TikTokers began using the video series to interact with one another. TikToker @nickandsienna posted a video featuring a celebrity crush which was then edited by another TikTok user in a separate video (shown below, right). The videos gained over 127,600 likes and 261,800 likes respectively in two days.
