About

That Looks Like The Battle Pass refers to a viral reaction video and series of TikTok Stitches started by TikToker @_inky in late February 2021 in which he says a bottle of cooking oil being poured into a pot looks like "the battle pass" (referring to the paid battle pass system employed in video games like Fortnite). The video went viral for its confusing nature and inspired a series of reaction Stitches where users agree that the video looks like the battle pass.

Origin

On February 18th, 2021, TikTok[1] page @foodies posted a life hack video showing a way to pour cooking oil more efficiently, garnering over 8 million views in two months (shown below, left). On February 22nd, TikToker[2] @_inky reacted to the video via a TikTok Stitch, saying about it, "that shit looks like the battle pass" (shown below, right). Many commenters were confused about what he meant, with no further context given. The video gained over 7.1 million views in two months.

Spread

Inky's confusing reaction inspired a number of other TikTokers to Stitch the video. Most notably, on February 26th, TikToker[3] Macpeepeepoopoo, now @itsmacdoogle, Stitched Inky's video with a reaction mimicking Inky's, also adding a scene where Mac sits at a computer and says, "Google, show me this guy's balls" (shown below). The video gained over 3.2 million views in just under two months (shown below).

On the same day, TikToker[4] @nibbatron5 continued the chain in a Stitch where he agrees with Mac, then says, "that's what I'm saying" in unison with Mac when Inky says his line, followed by yelling "woah" after the "Google, show me this guy's balls" line, garnering over 6.6 million views in the same span of time (shown below, left).

On February 27th, TikToker[5] @matics_trades Stitched that video, mimicking the last, garnering over 500,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, center). On the same day, TikToker[6] @Azion_ posted a Stitch to that video following the format, garnering over 3 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On February 28th, YouTuber[7] TheRealHood posted this combination of the videos, garnering over 172,000 views in under two months (shown below).

TikTokers continued to duet to various parts of the chain over the next few weeks, usually following the trend of mimicking the last person. Notably, on March 5th, TikToker[8] @spartangiraffe Stitched the video, and on March 8th TikToker[9] Mr. Bruno Stitched it, garnering over 1.4 and 9.9 million views respectively in a month (shown below, left and right).
