The image, entitled "Father," was drawn by artist puna-nezuki^[1] and published on their Tumblr account on January 22nd, 2017.

The first recorded instance of the image being used for a meme is from January 15th, 2018 for a Bitcoin meme, posted on Imgur (shown below).

The template continued to trend throughout 2018 with commentary on various topics. For example, on January 20th, another Imgur user made the meme with internet browsers, gaining over 5,300 points (shown below, left). On December 14th, a Giving WIkipedia 3 Dollars meme appeared on /r/MemeEconomy, gaining over 2,000 points (shown below, right).
