Teenage Dirtbag Photo, also known as My Teenage Dirtbag Photo, My Teenage Dirtbag Picture or Teenage Dirtbag Pictures, is a TikTok trend started in mid-2022 where creators share photographs and selfies from their "Teenage Dirtbag" eras set to a sped-up nightcore remix of the song "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus. The trend started with adoration for characters like Eddie Munson from Stranger Things and Rodrick from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, among other male heartthrobs.
Origin
On March 31st, 2022, the TikTok[1] page orchidstry shared a sped-up nightcore remix of Wheatus' song "Teenage Dirtbag," earning roughly 1.2 million plays and 44,200 likes over the course of five months (shown below, left). On July 11th, 2022, TikToker[2] folkloremirrorball used the song for a fancam video of Conrad Fisher from The Summer I Turned Pretty, earning roughly 1.1 million plays and 236,500 likes in one month. On July 15th, TikToker[3] x.ur..urmom.x used the song for a video showing Eddie Munson from Stranger Things and Rodrick from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, earning roughly 1 million plays and 217,200 likes in four weeks.
On July 22nd, 2022, TikToker[4] eryan224 shared photographs of herself with the song, claiming, "Guys.. I think I might be a teenage dirtbag." The video received roughly 641,800 plays and 154,400 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
Spread
Inspired by TikToker eryan224's use of the "Teenage Dirtbag" song, many creators started sharing their own photographs in subsequent iterations. For instance, on July 31st, 2022, TikToker[5] maneaterbf posted their teenage dirtbag photo, earning roughly 462,300 plays and 140,300 likes in one week (shown below, left). On August 2nd, TikToker[6] savluvsmetallica earned roughly 3.8 million plays and 803,900 like in one week (shown below, right).
Verified TikTokers and others with large followings joined the trend continuing into August 2022. As an example, on August 3rd, 2022, TikToker[7] so.not.eli shared a video that earned roughly 7.1 million plays and 1.5 million likes in six days (shown below, left). On August 5th, TikToker[8] carlylawrence shared a video that received roughly 3.6 million plays and 457,700 likes in four days (shown below, right).
