Taylor Swift x Jesus Edits refers to a series of fan edits made on TikTok that use movie scenes of Jesus Christ and songs by Taylor Swift, predominantly from her 2022 album Midnights. The pairing led to viral discussions among "swifties" (Swift's fanbase) and other TikTokers who found the edits odd, and hilarious but inspirational at the same time. The trend started in late 2022 and was discussed on other platforms like Twitter.
Origin
On November 22nd, 2022, TikToker[1] thebosswives posted a clip from a Talyor Swift interview in which she talked about "unconditional love." The video went viral and earned duets from users like TikToker[2] calliemelelani on November 25th, 2022, who wrote in text overlay, "this video reminds me of jesus," and gained roughly 59,500 plays and 12,800 likes in four weeks (shown below).
A week later, on December 2nd, 2022, TikToker[3] walkingforfaith posted a video that used the sound from TikToker[1] thebosswives' video, showing stylized captions about "unconditional love" followed by multiple images of Jesus Christ, earning roughly 11,200 plays and over 800 likes in 20 days (shown below, left). On the same day, December 2nd, 2022, Spanish-speaking TikToker[4] pandulce_ts posted a Jesus edit using Taylor Swift's song "The Great War," gaining roughly 227,300 plays and 39,200 likes in 20 days (shown below, right). The edit used clips from the 2003 movie The Gospel of John[5] in which actor Henry Ian Cusick portrayed Jesus Christ.

After the virality of the aforementioned Taylor Swift x Jesus edit, TikToker pandulce_ts continued creating and uploading similar edits in December 2022.
For instance, on December 9th, 2022, TikToker[6] pandulce_ts posted a new edit using Swift's song "You're On Your Own, Kid" and scenes from multiple Jesus-centric movies like The Passion of the Christ,[7] Jesus of Nazareth[8] and The Gospel of John.[5] The TikTok received roughly 408,300 plays and 63,800 likes in 13 days (shown below, left). The video was seen by many swifties on the app who posted reaction duets. For instance, on December 9th, TikToker[9] sarahgraceduh posted a video that conveyed shock over the pairing, gaining roughly 1.6 million plays and 352,100 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).
More Taylor Swift x Jesus edits surfaced in December 2022, earning viral engagement and viral reactions. For instance, on December 15th, 2022, TikToker[10] rvby._.08 posted an edit that gained roughly 228,200 plays and 35,600 likes in one week (shown below, left). On December 16th, 2022, TikToker[11] lizziewarrick posted a duet with the edit, writing in text overlay, "Taylor Swift x Jesus is niche comedy i didn't know i needed," gaining roughly 71,600 plays and 7,800 likes in six days (shown below, right).
On December 17th, 2022, Spanish-speaking Twitter[12] user meawromantics tweeted, "todos os edits de jesus x taylor swift; a thread," and replied with multiple Taylor Swift x Jesus edits reposted from TikTok. The primary tweet in the thread received roughly 18,500 likes in five days (shown below).
