Taylor Swift Will Not Appear In Deadpool & Wolverine is a copypasta meme format using the phrasal template "X will not appear in Deadpool & Wolverine," in which "X" is replaced with a given celebrity, person or character. The meme was popularized on X / Twitter in June 2024 following a report by Entertainment Weekly confirming that Taylor Swift would not appear in the movie following rumors that she might play Dazzler.

Origin

On June 10th, 2024, Entertainment Weekly[1] reported that pop star Taylor Swift would not appear in the upcoming Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Prior to this, some rumors spread online that Swift would appear as the character Dazzler. That day, the @DiscussingFilm X[2] page shared the news, writing, "Taylor Swift will not appear in ‘DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE,'" garnering over 26,000 likes and 8,000 reposts in three days (shown below, left).

Also on June 10th, around four minutes later, X[3] user @ReyGGTV quote-reposted the post, replacing the image of Swift with an image of Walter White from Breaking Bad, writing, "Walter White will not appear in ‘DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE,'" garnering around 115 likes in three days (shown below, right). This is the earliest version of the meme.

Spread

The post inspired further memes over the following days, replacing "Taylor Swift" with another person or character. On June 10th, 2024, X[4] user @bigmonkeong posted a version of the meme replacing Taylor Swift with Koba from Planet of the Apes, garnering over 42,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). On the same day, X[5] user @mustakro posted a version about Solaire from Dark Souls, garnering over 10,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).



Corporate X accounts also began taking part in the trend. On June 11th, the @AdultSwimUK X[6] account posted a version of the meme with Glep from Smiling Friends, garnering over 42,000 likes in two days (shown below). On June 12th, the @WatchMojo X[7] account posted a version of the meme reading, "The WatchMojo Lady will not appear in 'DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE,'" garnering over 40,000 likes in a day.
