About

Tasty's "These Are All Cakes" Video refers to a viral video tweeted by Buzzfeed's cooking vertical Tasty that shows numerous cakes decorated to look like everyday objects being cut into. As the video spread, it was parodied in numerous ways on Twitter.

Origin

On July 8th, 2020, Tasty tweeted a video showing numerous cakes decorated to look like everyday objects being cut into. The video gained over 81,000 retweets and 171,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

As the video spread, users joked about it in numerous ways. Some noted that the cakes were primarily made out of fondant, a generally less-tasty sculpting icing used to pull off the effect. Twitter user @BATHSmusic[1] tweeted, "You serve me an 80% fondant cake, you're going to hell," gaining over 7,000 retweets and 36,000 likes (shown below, left). User @chiropteracore[2] tweeted, "i fucking hate fondant. it always for shit like this. it’s fucking disgusting. it’s just edible play dough. i hate fondant with a burning passion. fuck fondant" (shown below, right).

Others joked about the implication of an existential reality where all everyday objects could actually be cake. For example, Twitter user @TheAndrewNadeu[3] joked, "The year is 2030. Bakery art is so realistic, literally anything could be cake. The uncertainty has gripped the world in fear. I go to hug my wife for comfort. She is cake," gaining over 31,000 retweets and 200,000 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @blainecapatch[4] joked about if Ghislaine Maxwell was made of cake, gaining over 350 retweets and 4,200 likes (shown below, right).

Twitter user @momonahan parodied the video by cutting into an actual tissue box, gaining over 41,000 retweets and 200,000 likes (shown below).
