About

Taste The Peaness refers to a photoshopped image of a bag of frozen peas that shows a pod of peas arranged to look like a penis and testicles, the bag reading "peas, taste the peaness." The photoshop edit first appeared on eBaum's World in 2016, although its exact origin is unknown. It became popularized in image macros over the course of the 2010s, often attached to content reacting with shock or confusion. The product does not exist.

Origin

On May 9th, 2016, eBaum's World[1] user JBleep posted a ""SAVAGE AF MONDAY MEMES" collection. The 13th image is a photoshopped bag of frozen peas depicting a pea pod in the shape of a penis and testicles, liquid dripping from the tip. The bag reads, "peas" and "taste the peaness," a play-on-words. It is unclear who created the image, but it appears to be a photoshop of a real brand of frozen peas, as evidenced by a Fashion Herald[3] post from 2008 that uses an image[4] of a bag of frozen peas with the same swirling pattern as the photoshopped bag.

A 1994 episode of the animated comedy series The Critic titled "Eyes on the Prize" features an ad for "Rosebud Frozen Peas" read by Orson Welles (voiced by Maurice LaMarche) where he uses the tagline, "Rosebud Frozen peas, full of country goodness and green peaness," a similar pun to the photoshop (shown below). It is often referenced in the comments of posts sharing the photoshop.

The image spread across social media over the following years. The image was reposted many times across social media over the following year, notably by Facebook[6] page The Language Nerds on July 31st and Instagram[7] page centuryviral on December 26th, gaining over 15,000 reactions on the former and 95,000 likes on the latter in roughly a year.
