About
Takuache is a slang term used to describe young Mexican-American men who enjoy driving large pickup trucks and wearing expensive Mexican apparel such as boots, belts and jeans. They are often seen with a high bald tapered hairstyle, also known as the Edgar haircut, which is a name Takuaches themselves are sometimes referred to as. The catchphrases of a Takuache include “la mamalona” (truck), “cuh” (short for cousin) and “no quema cuh” ([My truck] cannot do a burnout). The most common depiction of a Takuache is an image of a short Mexican teen with the aforementioned haircut and a wide smile.
Origin
On November 2nd, 2017, Facebook user Adam Meis from Denver, Colorado made a post in which he asked the public to be on the search for a couple of teenagers who stole his truck. Attached to the post were two photos of the thieves riding on Meis’ truck. Screenshots of the thieves were then shared on Hispanic News Network’s Blogspot[1] site on November 5th, 2017.

Spread
In the following months, the screenshot of the teen was shared across various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and TikTok. This image would often be accompanied by references to Takuaches and the name "Edgar," such as a March 21st, 2019, screenshot of a deleted viral tweet, which was reposted on iFunny[2] where it received 128 likes in nearly two years (shown below).
On March 9th, 2019, Twitter[3] user TheFigueroaShow also made a tweet linking the short haircut with the name Edgar (shown below), receiving over 19,000 retweets and 77,000 likes in nearly two years.
Rumored Death
It is believed that the real name of the young man in the photo is Kevin and that he accidentally killed himself, though this is unconfirmed. On February 5th, 2020, TikToker[4] lafatpig posted a video discussing the original image with the caption "Story behind the 'Edgar' meme" stating that he apparently shot himself in the head while attempting to take photos with a gun (seen below).
