Sync Challenge is a series of TikTok parody videos in which typically two users perform a handshake ending with a mimed gunshot in sync with Ben Callahan's remix of "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes.
Origin
On November 5th, 2014, YouTube user SwaySounds uploaded "The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army (Ben Callahan Remix)" which received over three million views and 39,000 likes in five years (shown below).
TikTok user @nari_luvv first uploaded the sound clip to TikTok to use in the first iteration of the sync challenge. The video received over 830,000 likes and 68,000 shares as of February 7th (shown below).
Spread
The sound clip has been used in over 1.7 million videos on TikTok. On December 29th, 2018, the trend migrated to YouTube where MED KING uploaded the first Sync Challenge Compilation (shown below, left). The video gained over 96,000 views and 900 likes in two months. On January 5th, TiK ToK Point uploaded another compilation video (shown below, right).
On January 19th, 2019, Top Best TikTok uploaded another compilation to YouTube accumulating over 126,000 views in a month (shown below, right). The challenge continued to be popular throughout the month and on January 22nd, Tik Tok US-UK posted yet another compilation (shown below, right).
