It is unclear who first used the acronym "SYBAU" online. The earliest known use of the acronym is a definition by Urban Dictionary[1] user gh0ti a.k.a. markie made on November 19th, 2003, suggesting the term has been used since at least as early as 2003.
Spread
The term became increasingly popularized online in the mid-2020s, particularly on TikTok. SYBAU is often used in TS PMO ICL videos.
For example, on February 8th, 2025, TikToker[2] @swaggsolos posted a video using the phrase, garnering over 2 million views in three weeks.
On February 25th, TikToker[3] @onmybehalf posted a video that purposefully misdefines the phrase as "so you're beautiful and unique," garnering over 1.6 million views in three days.

The image also uses the Broken Heart or Heartbreak Emoji (💔), building on its use in JuggTok meme circles, alongside the Dead Rose Emoji (🥀).
