Swing, Snap, Rock is a viral original sound on TikTok in which a man yells at someone else for doing a dance (possibly the Renegade) incorrectly, yelling, "It's not that fucking hard, swing, snap, rock!" The audio first went viral on TikTok in March 2020 and continued to become popularized over the following years, including through a version remixing the audio with "Love You Like a Love Song" by Selena Gomez in 2022.
Origin
On January 5th, 2020, TikToker[1] @hbbordie posted a video of himself hiding in a closet captioned, "Me hiding in the Hype House to dodge the draft," garnering over 4 million views in three years (shown below). This is the original source of the audio.
Over the following months, the original sound for the video became a prominent source for lip dub and dance videos, inspiring over 40,000 uses in three years. Some of the highest engagement videos under the sound were uploaded on June 21st and 23rd, 2020, respectively, by TikTokers[2][3] @noahbeck and @justmaiko, in which one person lip dubs to the man yelling followed by dancing (shown below, left and right).
Spread
As early as May 2021, a version of the audio that begins with the song "Love You Like a Love Song" followed by the "swing, snap, rock" audio became popularized on TikTok,[4] inspiring over 1,700 uses in two years. On November 12th, 2021, the @RiotForge Twitter[5] page posted a meme referencing the original audio, garnering over 700 likes in two years (shown below).
In April 2023, a new original audio consisting of the "Love You Like a Love Song" version of the audio went viral on TikTok,[6] inspiring over 13,600 uses in three months. The most popular videos are memes that begin with someone crying and explaining a struggle, followed by another person oblivious to the struggle (top examples shown below).
