About

We're the Millers is a comedy film starring Jason Sudekis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter. The film tracks David Clark (Sudekis), a small-time marijuana dealer who attempts to smuggle two tons of marijuana across the Mexico-U.S. border by enlisting his neighbors in a scheme to pose with him as a typical American family.

History

The film was directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and premiered on August 3rd, 2013 at the Traverse City Film Festival and released worldwide on August 7th (trailer shown below).[1]

Reception

The film did well commercially, gaining $270 million at the box office against a $37 million budget.[2] Critics had mixed feelings about the film, as it scored a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes[3] and a 44/100 on Metacritic.[4] It was nominated for several People's Choice, MTV Movie, and Teen Choice awards.

Online Presence

Online, the film has over 720 thousand Facebook likes.[5] It has also spawned a myriad of parodies, particularly surrounding a scene, where it's revealed Clark is financially taking advantage of the other members of his party (shown below).

The scene became parodied in numerous ways online. For example, a January 7th, 2019 post on /r/dankmemes parodying Mafia City gained over 39,000 points on /r/dankmemes (shown below, left). A January 10th post on the subreddit gained over 41,000 points (shown below, right).

"You Guys Are Getting Paid?"

This particular line said by Will Poulter's character Kenny Rossmore in the film has become an image macro used to display surprise at another's previously unknown monetary income.
