About
Warhammer: Vermintide is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game series set in the Warhammer universe. Both games in the series were developed by Fatshark and have been released on Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
History
Fastshark, the developers behind War of the Roses, wanted to develop a Warhammer game since after playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle in 2004.[1] The team approached Games Workshop in 2013 for a license to Warhammer and began working on the first Vermintide game that year. The team coordinated with Games Workshop to ensure their vision for their game did not contradict the Warhammer series and to ensure the game had a "Warhammer feel." The game is a co-op first person shooter about surviving the apocalypse. The team was inspired by the Left 4 Dead series, and Vermintide has been compared to the series. The first Vermintide game, Warhammer: Endtimes – Vermintide was announced on February 5th, 2015 with a trailer that gained over 252,000 views (shown below). The game was released on Microsoft Windows on October 23rd of that year. The game sold over 500,000 copies.
Warhammer: Vermintide II
In August of 2017, Fatshark announced Warhammer: Vermintide II.[2] On October 17th, 2017, the full trailer for the game was revealed (shown below).
Reception
The first Vermintide game was met with positive reception. The first game was named by PC Gamer as "The Best Game of PAX" in 2015. The game has a score of 79/100 on Metacritic.[3] Many critics praised the game for being true to Warhammer and employing good elements from Left 4 Dead. The second Warhammer gained a score of 80/100 on Metacritic.[4]
Online Presence
The game has a devoted subreddit[5] which has over 27,000 upvotes. The game also has 23,000 likes on Facebook.[6] There is also a sizable amount of fan art on Tumblr devoted to the game (examples shown below).
