About
Undertale Yellow is a fan-made prequel to Undertale that was made by Team Undertale Yellow. The fan-game stars a cowboy character named Clover, who was the child who fell into Mount Ebott before Frisk, and quickly became a favorite for fans of the original Undertale game. Shortly after it's release, a controversy brewed involving the game's soundtrack and usage of music found in Undertale, which gathered a lot of attention for it.
History
The game was first revealed as an early alpha on April 30th, 2016, on the YouTube channel MasterSwordRemix[1]. In the reveal trailer, the lore of the game is explained as taking place before the established story in Undertale, showing familiar faces and not breaking from the original canon (shown below, left). Other progress videos would be posted to the same YouTube channel until the game's official release[2] on December 9th, 2023, in which a launch trailer of the completed game was posted and received over 1 million views in over one week (shown below, right).
Audio Controversy
On December 20th, 2023, the @UndertaleYellow official X[3] account posted that their corporate office told them to remove 100 songs from the OST, and that 35 tracks would be streamable on various platforms. This was then QRT'd by @SebastianWolff[4] the CEO of MateriaMusic, the video game producer that handles Undertale's music, giving an explanation that quickly went viral when a challenge was issued to prove that Toby Fox gave Undertale Yellow the rights to use the music for a bounty of $10,000 (shown below, left and right).
This controversy continued to build over the following weeks, with Undertale Yellow[5] releasing further word on January 2nd, 2024, in which they explain that they had been in talks with Toby Fox behind the scenes to make it so any issues resulting from the audio and musical rights for YouTube videos can be safely resolved. This later created further arguing which resulted in Toby Fox having a statement be released by Undertale Yellow[6] in which he says that he is donating $20,000 to the charity of Undertale Yellow's choice, AbleGamers (shown below, left and right).
