Try Guys is an American YouTube Comedy series starring Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang. Each episode was written, directed and shot by the group initially for BuzzFeed video. In 2018, the group separated themselves from BuzzFeed and created their own independent YouTube channel.

Online History

On September 12th, 2014, BuzzFeed Video uploaded a video titled, "Guys Try On Ladies' Underwear For The First Time // Try Guys" (shown below, left). This was the first video featuring the "Try Guys." The video gained over 21.5 million views and 200,000 likes in five years. BuzzFeed Video released nine seasons, 11 episodes each, of the web series "Try Guys." On May 9th, 2015, BuzzFeed Video uploaded "The Try Guys Try Labor Pain Simulation" which became their most popular video with 33.5 million views and 373,000 likes in four years.

On June 16th, 2018, The Try Guys announced their new independent channel with a trailer (shown below, left). The video gained over 2.3 views and 176,000 likes in a year. Their most popular video,"The Try Guys 400 Dumpling Mukbang ft. Strictly Dumpling" gained over 10.8 million views in four months (shown below, right). In 2019, the Try Guys released a book and began a podcast.[4][5]

I'm Gay

On June 15th, 2019, The Try Guys uploaded the music video "I'm Gay – Eugene Lee Yang" featuring music by Odesza (shown below). The video accumulated over 6.5 million views and 817,00 likes in two days.

That same day, Eugene Lee Yang[7] tweeted, "I created this music video as my personal way of coming out as a proud gay man who has many unheard, specific stories to tell. I withheld because of fear and shame shaped by my background but I promise to give my full truth in the rest of my life's work.🏳️‍🌈" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 193,700 likes and 37,700 retweets in two days. He continued on to say, "The music featured is by the incredible @odesza. I've also created a fundraiser for the @TrevorProject to help save LGBTQ+ lives. Coming out is a lifelong process – your safety always comes first – but know that there's a vibrant community waiting to welcome you with open arms" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 44,500 likes and 5,000 retweets in two days. The video was reported on by Newsweek[6] and an interview with Eugene Lee Yang can be found in the Advocate.[3]

Reception

In 2016, Try Guys won the Streamy award for best nonfiction channel, show or series.[1] In 2018, the group won both a Webby[2] best unscripted people's voice award and Streamy award for show of the year. In 2019, Try Guys won best YouTube ensemble at the Streamy awards.
