Trauma Dump Comics refers to autobiographical webcomics about personal trauma shared by various authors on social media, with trauma dumping describing an act of sharing an unsolicited personal trauma story. An influx of such comics, many of which were used in memes, in June and July 2024 formed a distinctive trend and a discourse around it. Notable examples of the trend include I Might Go Homeless?, I Forgot You Were a Man and Your Favorite Student.

I Might Go Homeless?

On December 17th, 2023, X^[1] / Twitter user @Donut_tweetz made a thread in which she told a story in the format of a comic of her conflict with her mother over @Donut_tweetz's pro-Palestinian stance in the Gaza-Israel conflict. The thread opened with a panel depicting @Donut_tweetz herself with the words "I might go homeless..?" hovering above her head. The first post in the thread garnered over 38,000 reposts and 75,000 likes in six months.

In June 2024, after the author of the comic announced that she briefly became homeless,^[2]^[3] their thread was parodied online, with users editing the opening panel and parodying the caption by using it as a phrasal template (examples shown below).

That Casually Misogynistic Remark / "I Forgot You Were a Man"

That Casually Misogynistic Remark refers to a comic panel by artist Ashmatics in which their trusted male friend makes a "casually misogynistic remark," with the remark itself blurred in the comic.^[4] Online, the panel gained popularity as an exploitable meme format with users editing various remarks into the speech bubble the male friends could have possibly said.

Your Favorite Student

Your Favorite Student refers to an autobiographical comic published by artists Erin Basca (@rubodubo) on X^[5] / Twitter in early July 2024. The comic tells Basca's personal story of getting groomed by a professor at her university, with Basca eventually coming to a realization of what has been happening and reporting the professor. In early July 2024, the opening panel of the comic, depicting portraits of Basca and her professor and captioned "Your Favorite Student", achieved popularity as a meme format.

The Morning Visitor

The Morning Visitor refers to a surrealist painting depicting a strange spiky creature violating a young woman and entering her by Italian artist Dino Buzzatti. The artwork went viral on X / Twitter in mid-June 2024, with some users utilizing the last panel of it as a caption format, which triggered discourse about the ethicality of using the artwork as a meme. The image of the spiky shape from the painting has gained particular popularity in memes about assault and has often been used in conjunction with Trauma Dump Comic memes.
