History

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds was developed and published by Landfall, who previously created a similar parody called Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Initially, the game was intended to be an April Fool's Day joke, but its release was delayed till June 5th, 2018. The game was released for free for 100 hours after its release before retailing for $5 on Steam.

Reception

The game was favorably received by fans and critics. As of July 11th, 2018, the game has a score of "Mostly Positive" reviews on Steam.[2] Kotaku offered a positive review of the game, saying the exaggerated mechanics made for a fun, "madcap" experience. Rock Paper Shotgun said that the exaggeration was a little played out, but did appreciate technical improvements the game brought to the genre, including the ability to dual-wield weapons and not depending on microtransactions.

Online Presence

Online, the game has made a large impact on the Lets Play community, as several popular channels have included it on their streams. VanossGaming played the game on his channel, gaining over 3.2 million views (shown below, left). Game Grumps played the game on their channel and gained over 494,000 views (shown below, right).
