About

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 refers to the 2020 remake of the first two games in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise, which were initially released in 1999 and 2000, respectively. The remake bundles the two games together. In addition to recreating levels from the game with higher graphical fidelity, the game features new challenges, features, and quality-of-life improvements from the first two games. Much of the original cast and soundtrack are in the game along with new songs and playable characters.

History

On May 12th, 2020,[1] Activision announced that the first two games in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series would be remastered and released later that year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo featuring the Warehouse level from the first game would be released for those who preordered the game. The remake was developed by Vicarious Visions, who developed the 2017 Crash Bandicoot remakes. That day, the first trailer of the game was released (shown below). The game released on September 4th, 2020.

Reception

The game released to widely positive reviews, scoring an 88/100 on Metacritic.[2] Critics praised the fidelity to the original and the heavy dose of nostalgia it provides. Polygon[3] wrote the game feels "miraculous," "an act of driving through your old neighborhood to see what’s changed, back when a few skate parks and some inventive inside jokes were enough to support a full-priced release." Forbes[4] wrote, "The nostalgia is strong with this one, but not a necessary component. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is just plain, good old-fashioned arcade fun."

Online Presence

The games were widely covered on YouTube in reviews. User Nick930 posted a direct comparison between the remakes and originals, gaining over 378,000 views (shown below, left). gameranx posted a "Before You Buy" review of the game, gaining over 540,000 views (shown below, right).

The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater subreddit posted screenshots from the game commenting on its beauty (examples shown below).
