The Exit 8 (Jap. ８番出口) is a horror simulator game in which the player is trapped in the Exit 8 underground hallway while trying to find the exit. The game was developed and published by KOTAKE CREATE and was released in November 2023. The game grew popular in Japan with fan art referencing the game.

History

On November 3rd, 2023, the developer KOTAKE CREATE posted on its official YouTube^[1] channel the trailer for the game. In the video, the player is in the passageway of a Japanese subway exit number 8, though while walking, the player seems like don't go anywhere. The video received more than 168,000 views in two months (shown below). On November 29th, 2023, the game was released on Steam.

Online Presence

As of December 20th, 2023, the game has received "very positive" based on more than 2,800 reviews on Steam^[2].

The game started growing popular after it was played by a number of streamers. For example on December 4th, 2023, YouTuber^[3] MiawAug uploaded a video of himself playing the game. It received more than 725,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On December 12th, 2023, YouTuber^[4] Markiplier uploaded the video and received more than 2.6 million views in one week (shown below, right).

On December 5th, 2023, X^[5] user @tatakoorino uploaded art of the Love Live Nijigasaki character Karin Asaka getting lost in Exit 8. The post received more than 633 reposts and 2,300 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On December 7th, 2023, X^[6] user @kusunoki5050 uploaded art of Virtual YouTuber Shigure Ui lost in Exit 8. The post received more than 1,800 reposts and 12,400 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
