The Batman 2 refers to the sequel of The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson, Zöe Kravitz and Paul Dano. The sequel was announced in early 2022 and was set to release in mid-2024. As with the first movie, it's set to be directed by Matt Reeves. After the announcement from Warner Bros. Studios in late April 2022, fans reacted across social media in memes and tweets.

History

After the release of The Batman on March 4th, 2022, the film was generally well-received by critics and audiences alike. As evidence, by late April 2022, the movie had received an 85 percent "Fresh" score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, [1] as well as an 87 percent audience score. Many memes surfaced from the movie including Something In The Way, Something In My Ass and Riddler's 'No No No No No!', among others.

Announcement

On April 26th, 2022, The Batman 2 was announced by Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich at CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas.[2] Both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson came onto the stage to announce it with Emmerich. Its original release date was marked as June 21st, 2024.

Multiple tweets from film-centric news outlets were posted along with the development. For instance, IGN posted a tweet[3] on April 26th that received roughly 73,800 likes over the course of one day (shown below, left). Similar announcements were made on other platforms, like one posted on April 26th by the Instragram[4] page of Complex Magazine, which earned roughly 173,900 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Reactions

Many fans reacted to the announcement going into the end of April 2022. For instance, on April 26th, 2022, Twitter[5] user TheBat_Family tweeted, "THE BATMAN SEQUEL OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED!," earning roughly 2,700 likes in one day (shown below, left). Coincidentally, some Twitter users anticipated the announcement before it even happened. Twitter[6] user dcviIsadvocate posted a tweet on April 25th that captioned a photo of Patrick Bateman with, "me when the batman 2 is announced tomorrow." The tweet earned roughly 5,800 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Other internet users had more humorous reactions. For instance, on April 26th, 2022, Twitter[7] user tdkrgoat captioned a photo of GigaChad on the computer with, "'Yeah, I want The Batman sequel to be called The Batman 2," earning roughly 17,500 likes in one day (shown below).
