About
Terminator: Dark Fate is the sixth film in the Terminator franchise and developed as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day, eschewing the three sequels in between the two films. The film's production was a source of much fan excitement as the series' original stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong would reunite with the series co-creator James Cameron on the film.
History
On October 1st, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter[1] reported that following the underperforming box office grosses of Terminator: Genisys, the series' fifth installment, producer David Ellison had put future sequels on hold.
Two years later, on April 3rd, 2017, Fandango[2] announced that series star Arnold Scwarzenegger was "looking forward to doing another Terminator movie." He also indicated that after 2018, the rights to the film series would revert back to James Cameron, director of the first two installments and a co-creator of the series. Schwarzenegger continued:
Cameron will be producing it, and there will be another director on it. I'm always looking forward to doing another Terminator, especially if the story is written well and it really entertains the whole world.
Later that year, the Hollywood Reporter[3] announced that Linda Hamilton, who starred in the first two Terminator movies would reprise the role of Sarah Connor in the film.
On May 23rd, 2019, Paramount Pictures released the first teaser trailer for the film. Within three months, the trailer received more than 18 million views (shown below, left).
On July 18th, at San Diego Comic Con, the producers of the film premiered a new featurette of footage from the upcoming film, as well as behind-the-scenes clips and interviews (shown below, right). Additionally, they announced that Edward Furlong, who played John Connor in Terminator 2 would also be reprising the role.[4]
