About

Shap10r, also known as Shaplor, refers to a mobile app video game developed by TikToker @elliemarieteaches' dad, William Scott Jensen, aka Uncle Bill, who went viral on TikTok in November 2024 when his daughter recorded him complaining about no one using his app despite him spending so much time on it. After the viral video, Shap10r rose from two downloads to over 310,000 downloads and reached the #1 spot in the iOS Apple App Store's "Strategy" section. People posted gameplay footage and reacted to the original, wholesome video that made the game go viral.

History

Shap10r was added to the Apple App Store on April 8th, 2023. It was created by William Scott Jensen. By December 3rd, 2024, Shap10r had become the #1 game in the App Store's "Strategy" category.^[4]

Gameplay

Shap10r is a puzzle game that uses 24 unique shape-color combinations called Shaplors. The goal is to determine the answer key by selecting five Shaplors from the grid. A Shaplor is given a green outline if it's in the correct position. The game is similar to Wordle. ^[4]

Online Presence

On December 1st, 2024, TikToker^[1] @elliemarieteaches posted a video about "When your Dad has spent a year perfecting his app just for there to be only ONE person who played today…" In the video, Jensen seems upset because not enough people are playing his mobile app game Shap10r despite him spending so much time on it. The TikToker urged her viewers to play the game. Over two days, the video received over 28.2 million plays and 3.6 million likes (shown below).

The viral video inspired people to play the game in the following days. For instance, on December 1st, TikToker^[2] @davina.anivad posted a gameplay video with text overlay reading, "Playing shap10r because my friend keeps canceling our plans," gaining over 2.2 million plays and 41,200 likes in two days (shown below).

On December 2nd, 2024, TikToker^[3] @elliemarieteaches posted an update video claiming that Shap10r had gone from two downloads to over 310,000 downloads in two days. The video gained roughly 50,200 plays and 4,500 likes in a day (shown below).
