Resident Evil 3 Remake refers to the remake of Capcom's 1999 survival-horror game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for the Playstation 4. After cover art featuring redesigns for the game's protagonist Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliveira, and the game's main antagonist, "Nemesis," leaked on the Playstation Network, it fueled speculation that the remake will be announced soon. On December 10th, the game was officially unveiled and was revealed to have a release date of April 3rd, 2020.

History

Following the success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi stated the company may produce a remake for Resident Evil 3 if fans expressed interest.^[1] On December 3rd, 2019, Gamestat^[2] noticed that cover art for a Resident Evil 3 remake had been added to the Playstation Network (shown below).

Online Presence

Most Twitter users expressed excitement for the game. @MattMcMuscles wrote, "Not particularly enthused with Capcom ignoring 20 years worth of character design, just to remake them into completely different people but whatever, it's Nemesis…I'll play it!" (shown below, left). User @AlphaOmegaSin wrote, "Hyped as fuck for Resident Evil 3," gaining over 400 retweets and 2,200 likes (shown below, right).

Nemesis Redesign Jokes

The majority of online reaction to the leaks were jokes about Nemesis' redesign, which gave the character longer teeth and altered its nose. User @superbutterbuns tweeted a still from SpongeBob Squarepants mocking Nemesis' mouth, gaining over 300 retweets and 1,800 likes (shown below, left). User @JoshTheMedic made a Gonna Tell My Kids joke also using SpongeBob, gaining over 100 retweets and 390 likes (shown below, right).
