About

Q-Force is an upcoming animated sitcom produced by Netflix. The show stars a team of LGBTQ+ superspies looking to prove themselves to the American Intelligence Agency. After its trailer released in June 2021, it was widely criticized and mocked for being unfunny and arguably offensive to the LGBTQ+ community.

History

On June 23rd, 2021, Netflix posted the first trailer for Q-Force, an animated comedy starring Sean Hayes, Wanda Sykes, Gary Cole, Patti Harrison, Matt Rogers, David Harbour and Laurie Metcalf (shown below).

Online Presence

The trailer quickly drew criticism and mockery, particularly from LGTBQ+ users. Several users made jokes that the trailer turned them straight. User @albedoglow[1] posted a joke showing the Pink Panther, gaining over 310 retweets and 3,100 likes (shown below, left). User @drewtherat[2] posted a Change Team meme regarding the trailer, gaining over 390 retweets and 3,900 likes (shown below, right).

Some were more charitable towards the show. User @SamG_Anim,[3] a Netflix employee, noted that there was a diverse, queer team behind the show and the trailer may have been doing it a disservice (shown below, left). However, most people posted jokes and criticisms, including user @fiowona,[4] who joked that several legos were the "first" queer superheroes (shown below, right).
