About

Poorly Drawn Lines is a satirical, absurdist webcomic created by Reza Farazmand.

Origin

Farazmand first published a Poorly Drawn Lines comic as a student at University of California, San Diego. It started as a weekly comic, and the first few were about the type of people you see walking a college campus.[1]

Spread

The first website for Poorly Drawn Lines (or PDL, for short) was created by Marco Segreto and 2008, though Farazmand admits to not taking the project seriously until he graduated, got a new website designed by Danny Walcoff, and began posting on a regular schedule. The second website was launched in 2011, and still hosts PDL.[2] 2011 was also the year Farazmand launched the PDL Tumblr,[3] and the comic began reaching a wider audience in 2012.

In 2013, Farazmand signed to GoComics and began pursuing Poorly Drawn Lines full-time and began receiving press from the likes of Unearthed Comics[4] and NPR,[5] who praised Farazmand's ability to "make me nod, smile and hurt a little."

In 2014, four of his comics were adapted for the Comedy Central series, "Trip Tank."[6]

On October 6th, 2015, he released his first book with Penguin publishers, called Poorly Drawn Lines: Good Ideas and Amazing Stories. It hit number 5 on the New York Times Bestseller List on October 25th, 2015.[7]

As of August 11th, 2016, Poorly Drawn Lines has over 789,000 Facebook[8] likes, 20,400 Twitter followers,[9] and 197,000 Instagram followers.[10] Farazmand also maintains an online merchandise store, where he sells prints.[11]
