History
Monopoly has its roots in the 1904 board game The Landlord's Game, first made in 1904 by Elizabeth Magie. The game was created with the intention of teaching others about Georgism, an economic system that demonstrates how renting land enriches property owners while impoverishing tenants.
In 1932, Charles Darrow, after playing The Landlord's Game, made modifications to the game and began distributing his version under the title of Monopoly. In 1935, toy maker Parker Brothers purchased the rights to Monopoly and started to publish the game. The company had initially rejected the game the year prior.
