Mob Psycho 100 (Japanese: Mobu Saiko Hyaku; モブサイコ100) is a Japanese webcomic series created by the manga artist ONE, known for his other series One-Punch Man.
Premise
Kageyama Shigeo, also known as "Mob", is an 8th grader, good at all kinds of fraud and skills of speech, perceptive, clever and agile, who has psychic abilities. He could bend spoons and lift objects with his mind from a young age, but he slowly began to withhold from using his abilities in public due to the negative attention he kept receiving. As he grows older, Mob realizes his psychic power is dangerous. To avoid the power getting out of control, he constantly lives a life under emotional shackles, spending his days working with Reigen Arataka, his master and self-proclaimed psychic. Mob wants to live just like others, but a barrage of troubles come to him. With the suppressed emotions growing inside Mob little by little, his power threatens to overspill its bounds.
History
Mob Psycho 100 began publication on Weekly Shonen Sunday Web Comics on April 18th, 2012. On December 1st, 2015, it was announced on web comic magazine Ura Sunday that Mob Psycho 100 would be getting its own anime adaptation in 2016,[1] being Studio Bones responsible for the animation.[2]
Reception
The anime network page MyAnimeList contains a page for the manga series, which as December 12th, 2015 is ranked as 419 with a score of 8.24.[9] On January 28th, 2015, Ura Sunday published the partials results of a poll to decide which of the published manga would get an anime adaptation, with Mob Psycho 100 being on second place.[3]
Online Relevance
On September 2nd, 2015, a wiki dedicated to the series was created, getting over 150 pages during the following months.[8] On December 1st, 2015, after the anime anouncement, a dedicated subreddit was created, gaining over 80 subscribers in the following ten days.[7] On June 20th, 2013, YouTuber 賢者 uploaded a promotional animation titled "『モブサイコ100』テレビCM", which recieved over 340,000 views in the following two years. On December 8th, 2014, YouTuber asdasdgfrw reuploaded a niconico animation titled "モブサイコを科/学する", gaining over 30,000 views in the follwing year.
The series gained a huge following since its release. As December 12th, 2015, the japanese artist community pixiv leads to over 1000 results under the tag "モブサイコ100",[6] and the artist community deviantART leads to over 170 results under the keyword "mob psycho 100".[5] Fandom presence can also be found on other communities like Tumblr".[4]
