Marriage Story is a comedic drama film directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Scarlett Johansson as Nicole and Adam Driver as Charlie, a couple going through a divorce. The movie began streaming on Netflix in early December 2019 and quickly became critically acclaimed.

History

On October 17th, 2019, Netflix released Marriage Story official Trailer to YouTube (shown below). The trailer received over 2.3 million views in two months. The film began streaming on Netflix on December 6th.

Reception

Rotten Tomatoes^[11] gave Marriage Story a 96% rating out of 274 critics. It has also been positively reviewed by The New York Times,^[4] The New Yorker^[3] and The Verge.^[1] The film has also been nominated for six Golden Globes.^[2] On December 7th, Twitter users began discussing the overarching subject matter of divorce within Marriage Story. Twitter user @qhantomthread^[5] gained over 17,600 likes and 2,000 retweets in two days for tweeting, "divorced kids be like marriage story is my black panther" (shown below, left). That same day, Twitter user @rachelzegler^[6] tweeted, "watched marriage story and feel like i, too, got a divorce" which received over 3,400 likes in two days.

On December 7th, Twitter user @gos1ings^[7] retweeted a comment about Johansson's excellent acting skills and replied "that's literally her job as an actress……." which gained over 99,500 likes and 9,200 retweets in two days (shown below, left). Many Twitter users like @MiguelPoblador^[8] discussed how powerful the line "you shouldn’t be upset that I fucked her, you should be upset that I had a laugh with her" was to them (shown below, right).

Nicole And Charlie's Argument

On December 7th, 2019, Twitter users began using a four-paneled depiction of the big argument scene similarly to American Chopper Argument. Twitter user @ben_rosen^[9] tweeted a variation which gained over 73,900 likes and 18,300 retweets in two days while Twitter user @dreamoforgonon's^[10] variation garnered over 12,700 likes in a day (shown below, right).
