Lore Olympus is a web series created by Rachel Smythe. It is a comic retelling the story of the Greek mythology story of Hades and Persephone in the modern-day. The comic updates on Sundays and has released 99 episodes as of February 27th, 2020. In October of 2019, it was announced that the series would be adapted into a young-adult animated series.

History

On March 4th, 2018, Rachel Smythe launched Lore Olympus, a romantic retelling of the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone set in modern times, on Webtoon (panel examples shown below).^[1] The synopsis reads,

“Witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories -- The Taking of Persephone -- as it’s never been told before.”

As of February 27th, 2020, there are 99 episodes of the series.

Animated Series

On October 10th, 2019, Deadline^[2] reported that the Jim Henson company and Webtoon paired to create an animated young adult television show adapted from Lore Olympus. It is Webtoon's first partnership since the site launched in 2014. There is no announced release window for the series as of yet.

Online Presence

Lore Olympus has received widespread positive reception and has generated a strong fanbase online. The series has a rating of 4.7/5 on Goodreads^[3] based on 1,800 ratings. It has an expansive Wiki page.^[4] The series has a subreddit with over 6,700 subscribers.^[5] It also has over 3,000 likes on Facebook.^[6]
