On January 26th, 2024, Pharrell Williams posted a poster to Instagram,[1] writing in the caption, "Who would’ve thought that playing with LEGO bricks as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that you can do it too… #PieceByPiece." The poster showed a LEGO version of himself and a release date of October 11th, 2024. Over five months, the post gained roughly 389,400 likes (shown below).

News outlets like Deadline[2] then reported on the film which was set to release on October 11th, 2024. The film's director was Morgan Neville and it was going to be produced by Focus Features.

Trailer

On June 6th, 2024, Focus Features posted the film's first trailer to YouTube,[3] gaining over 3.7 million views in a day (shown below).

Online Reaction

After Williams announced the film in January 2024, a viral post was shared on /r/lego by Redditor[10] ManuPasta that received over 5,500 upvotes in five months. The top comment on the post read, "10 years ago we had a Lego movie with William Ferrell now we have a Lego movie with Pharrell Williams."

Viral reactions ensued en masse when the trailer was posted by the Twitter / X [4] account @DiscussingFilm on June 6th, 2024, which received over 21.2 million views and 116,000 likes in a day.

Replies and quotes of the tweet went viral, like a reply shared by X[5] user @Laszlo21792025 who was shocked by LEGO Kendrick Lamar, gaining over 10,000 likes in a day (shown below, left).

Also on June 6th, X[6] user @imdrip777 posted a similar reaction, writing, "Lego Crips is crazy 😭😭," receiving over 40,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).

While some viral reactions on X[7] praised the film, others were critical of the movie, like X[8] user @Girochinkatta on June 6th, 2024, who said, "We are living through the most bland and sterile nothing culture now," receiving over 15,000 likes in a day (shown below, left).

Also on June 6th, X[9] user @JJJ4Y0_O shared a quote with a similar sentiment, writing, "yea sure lets all watch your sanitized mythologized life through the lens of a multimillion dollar toy ad…" gaining over 2,100 likes in a day (shown below, right).
