Kiznaiver (キズナイーバー Kizunaībā) is a 2016 Japanese anime television series produced by Studio Trigger, Aniplex and Crunchyroll. It is written by Mari Okada and directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi.
Synopsis
Kiznaiver takes place in a futuristic Japanese town called Sugomori City. The city was created to test a large-scale experiment known as the "Kizna System," which connects people through shared physical and emotional pain and suffering. Those who are connected to the system are called "Kiznaivers".
A few days before the start of summer vacation, a mysterious girl named Noriko Sonozaki tells high school student Katsuhira Agata and several of his classmates that they have been selected to become Kiznaivers.[1]
History
On October 1st, 2015, Studio TRIGGER teased on their website that they were working on a new anime and will reveal new information in the November 2015 issue of PASH! magazine.[2] On October 10th, 2015, after the magazine's release, the title of the anime was revealed as Kiznaiver.
Between November 7th, 2015 and March 28th, 2016, details about the anime, including characters, setting, and the staff were revealed. On March 3rd, 2016, Crunchyroll has announced that it has acquire exclusivity rights to stream Kiznaivers in the West.[3] The first two episodes premiered at SakuraCon 2016.[4] The anime was aired on April 10th, 2016.
On November 2nd, 2017, Aniplex USA announced a home video release in North America with an English dub co-produced by Crunchyroll and The Ocean Group. It was released on December 26th, 2017.[5] Two months later, on February 1st, 2018, the English Dub appeared on Crunchyroll.[6]

Manga
A tie-in manga by Roji Karegishi was published simultaneously by Kadokawa Shoten's Dengeki Maoh magazine & Crunchyroll. It premiered on March 25th, 2016 and ran until February 27th, 2017.[7] A gag manga featuring the characters in chibi form called "Mini! KIZNAIVER Theater" idrawn by S. Kosugi and serialized in Dengeki Comics NEXT was later released on Crunchyroll.[8]
Reception
Kiznaiver has received a "Mostly Positive" reception, as fans have praised the show's themes, characters and animation, but was criticized for its lackluster story. it has an average rating of 7.59 on MyAnimeList.[9]

As of July 16th, 2018, the anime has a Twitter Account with 39,608 followers,[10] a Facebook page with 33,701 likes,[11] and a subreddit with 580 subscribers.[12] Fan art for the series has appeared on has been spawn from Pixiv,[13] Deviantart,[14] and Tumblr[15] (shown below).
