Overview
Kagura Bachi or Kagurabachi is a shonen manga series created by Takeru Hokazono that follows the story of Chihiro, a son of a swordmaster seeking revenge. Following its announcement, the series found a massive semi-ironic following online as people hailed the yet unreleased manga as one of the best manga series of all time, with the phenomenon becoming known as Kagura Bachi Glazing. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in mid-September 2023.
History
On August 30th, 2023, Kagura Bachi a shonen manga about an apprentice swordsmith turned swordmaster to take revenge on evil, was announced, with serialization starting in Weekly Shonen Jump in September.[1] On September 10th, a color preview of the manga, a panel of main character Chihiro Rokuhira unsheathing a katana, was revealed. On that day, X[2] account @WSJ_manga posted it, with the post garnering over 190 retweets and 1,100 likes in two weeks (shown below, left; Weekly Shonen Jump #42 cover art shown below, right).
On September 18th, 2023, the first chapter "Mission" of Kagura Bachi, which introduces the protagonist Chihiro along with several other characters, premiered in the digital release of Weekly Shonen Jump.[3]

In mid-September 2023, shortly before the release of the first chapter of the manga, Kagura Bachi achieved semi-ironic popularity on social media, with users hailing it as one of the greatest manga of all time and comparing it with the likes of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, naming Kagura Bachi as one of The Big Three series.
Before the trend started, several posts criticizing and expressing dislike the upcoming manga went viral on X. For example, on September 14th, X[4] user @kareemmpie used the synopsis of Demon Slayer manga series to describe Kagura Bachi, with the post (shown below, left) garnering over 1,400 reposts and 33,700 likes in five days. On September 15th, 2023, user @CharMayCry[5] made a post that received over 1,100 reposts and 13,800 likes in four days (shown below, right).
The semi-ironic trend, known as Kagura Bachi Glazing, started on September 13th, 2023, when an X[6] user made a Greater Than post stating that Kagura Bachi is a greater manga than Boruto, with the tweet gaining over 50 retweets and 180 likes (shown below). Later that day, Redditor ForsenBruh posted a screenshot of the post in the /r/Kagurabachi[7] subreddit, where it received over 560 upvotes in two weeks.
In the following days, multiple posts presenting Kagura Bachi as one of the greatest manga series of all time went viral on X, and later on TikTok and Reddit. For example, on September 17th, 2023, X[8] user @yousorohno posted a joke that received over 400 reposts and 2,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). On September 17th, 2023, Redditor oarakonSeven posted a Greater Than meme that received over 2,600 upvotes in the /r/okbuddybaka[9] subreddit in two days (shown below, right).
The format is closely associated with the phrase "enough time has passed."

Chihiro Unsheathing a Katana Redraws, also known simply as Kagura Bachi Redraws, refers to a series of redraw art of Chihiro Rokuhira unsheathing a katana. The redraw trend achieved popularity as a part of the Kagura Bachi Glazing trend that involved excessively praising the manga in September 2023.
