Jury Duty is an American docu-comedy television series created by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. The show follows a jury trial in the US through the eyes of juror Ronald Gladden, who is unaware that his jury duty is part of a prank, and that everyone on the court aside from him is an actor. The TV series became popularized on TikTok on April 2023, with many clips of the show being shared on the platform.

History

On September 15th, 2022, Deadline[1] announced that actor James Marsden secretly recorded a jury trial docu-style comedy series for Amazon Studios. A trailer for the TV series was later announced on March 9th, 2023, showing the full cast of actors and Ronald Gladden, the only person unaware that everything that happens inside and outside the courtroom is planned. The trailer, uploaded on the Rotten Tomatoes YouTube[2] channel (seen below) garnered 102,000 views and 777 likes in one month.

The first four episodes of the series premiered on Amazon Freevee[3] on April 7th, 2023, and the finale is expected to air on April 21st, 2023.

Online Reactions

Since its premiere in April, the series has been receiving a lot of compliments online. For example, HELLO Magazine[4] described the show as an "elaborate 'The Truman Show' style situation." Social media users, especially TikTokers, have been posting several clips of the funniest moments of the show. For example, TikTok[5] user @keshascastle posted a scene (seen below) of the show with the caption "this scene gave major office vibes," which garnered 7.6 million plays 860,000 likes in one week.

Some fans already have collectively agreed upon a favorite character in the show, the juror Barbara, played by the actress Susan Berger. TikToker[6] @usagisenpaii shared a scene (seen below) featuring the fake juror on April 10th, 2023, garnering 9.1 million plays and 1.1 million likes in a week.
