Jellystone! is a 2021 animated HBO Max series featuring characters from classic Hanna-Barbera franchises, including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Wally Gator, Captain Caveman and more. The show premiered on July 29th, 2021, and is developed by C. H. Greenblatt, the developer of Chowder and Harvey Beaks.

History

Production on Jellystone! began in early 2020. On June 24th, 2021, an official trailer for the show was released on YouTube,^[1] gaining over 280,000 views in a month (shown below).

The complete first season of Jellystone! was released on HBO Max on July 29th, consisting of 20 11-minute long episodes. The show follows a more modern format than classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, including references to other media franchises and genres. For example, one episode contains a parody of Japanese anime, featuring a temporary shift in animation and use of Japanese voice actors for effect (shown below).

The show also features an episode with The Banana Splits, depicting them as villains as per their modern rebrand as Five Nights At Freddy's style villains (scene shown below).

Leading up to and following the release of the first season of Jellystone!, a number of the voice actors for the show advertised the show on their Instagram^[4][5] profiles, including voice actors Grace Helbig, who voices Cindy Bear, and Jenny Lorenzo, the voice of multiple characters including Choo-Choo and Spooky (shown below, left and right).

Online Presence

The show quickly gained a following, with many viewers praising the show for going beyond nostalgia-bait, as well as its humor. Many also praised the show's inclusivity and reinterpretations of certain characters. For example, on July 31st, Twitter^[2] user @Kardboardian posted a meme comparing the original Cindy Bear to the Jellystone! Cindy Bear, gaining over 6,500 likes and 780 retweets in three days (shown below).

On the same day, Twitter^[3] user @MikeCatSU posted a funny clip from the show encouraging others to watch, gaining over 9,300 likes and 1,800 retweets in three days (shown below).

People also began making memes referencing Jellystone! On August 1st, Twitter^[6] user @roddymcdowall posted an image of a pair of hands holding up Auggie Doggie, gaining over 2,800 likes and 500 retweets in two days (shown below).
