About
Jace Ingham Reborn Doll is a limited-edition replica of the infant child of British YouTubers Chris and Sarah Ingham.
History
On March 28th, 2019, the Ingham Family YouTube channel published the video of their child Jace. Within six months, the video entitled "EMOTIONAL LIVE BIRTH – LABOUR AND DELIVERY!" received more than 550,000 views (shown below, left).
Several months later, on July 19th, YouTuber posted a "very special secret," announcing a doll designed in the infant's image. The post received more than 148,000 views in less than three weeks (shown below, right).
Shortly after, the website MaryShortle.com[1] began selling the doll in a limited edition run (shown below). According to the site, the doll includes "3 Outfits, Hat, Dummy, Dummy Clip, Nappies, Birth Certificate, Gift Bag & a Pen." The doll costs between £279.00 – £344.00.
Reception
Many criticized the doll on social media. On July 24th, Twitter [2] user @jaubreyYT tweeted, "If anyone wanted an update, the Ingham family is now selling life-like replicas of their baby, Jace. Imagine finding out your parents once sold realistic dolls of the newborn you online for £300" (shown below, left).
Others wondered who would buy such a product. Twitter[3] user @callummarkie tweeted, "my heads gone chris ingham and his family are genuinely selling a £350 replica of their actual new born child for strangers to buy??? mate imagine what freaks could buy that – cant believe my eyes." The tweet received more than 1,900 likes and 165 retweets in two weeks (shown below, center). While others thought it concerning that even Ingham's fanbase had reservations about the doll. Twitter[4] user @_Philocalist tweeted, "It's a big yikes from me with regards to that Ingham family doll and they've even managed to creep out their own fanbase. These are the comments on their announcement video" (shown below, right).
According to BuzzFeed, [5] Chris Ingham responded to the criticism by saying, "Unfortunately we live in a world where people thrive on negativity so tend to only focus on that. Completely disregard all the positivity and overwhelming support in favor of the gossip and 'drama' side of life instead. Which is very sad."
