About

inZOI is an upcoming life simulation video game developed by South Korean video game studio Krafton. The game puts the player in charge of a community of virtual people named Zoi, with player able to create characters and manage their lives and relationships. The game is expected to be released in late 2024.

History

In early 2023, South Korean game studio and publisher Krafton started development of inZOI, a life simulation video game for PC and consoles similar to the The Sims series.

On November 16th, 2023, the official gameplay demo trailer for the game premiered on YouTube,[1] where it received over 154,000 views in nine months (shown below).

Between August 21th and August 26th, Krafton opened access to inZOI: Character Studio, a tool for creating Zoi characters (announcement video shown below).[2]

On August 20th, a gameplay trailer for the game premiered on YouTube,[3] where it received over 1.3 million views in six days (shown below).

Gameplay and Features

inZOI is a life simulation game in which the player creates a Zoi character and manages their life in a neighborhood full of other Zoi. Player can customize their characters and their living spaces, as well as some parts of the environment they live in. Similar to The Sims, the characters have needs which player has to help keeping fulfilled. Players are able to share content they create on the user-generated content platform called "Canvas".

Online Reactions

Pre-Launch

The game first drew online attention in November 2023 following the release of the gameplay demo trailer. On November 18th, 2023, IGN posted a TikTok[4] about the game that garnered over 2.5 million views and 137,000 likes in nine months. On November 20th, 2023, X[5] user @myPotatoGames made a reaction post about the game that received over 570 reposts and 2,400 likes (shown below).

The game again drew online attention following the release of the character creator tool as users shared their Zoi on social media. For example, on August 21st, 2024, X[6] user @Daetirn posted images of a Zoi lookalike of actor Timothée Chalamet that received over 280 reposts and 2,600 likes in six days (shown below).

Some users on X[7][8] / Twitter expressed concerns over Krafton's partnership with the mod repository CurseForge, owned by the Isreal-based software platform Overwolf, which donated money to the IDF in the past and has been a subject of boycott in the The Sims community.
