Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus is an animated American film sequel to the Nickelodeon television series Invader Zim. It is set to premiere on Netflix on August 16th, 2019.

History

After years of rumors, on April 4th, 2017, Nickelodeon announced that they had greenlit a 90-minute Invader Zim film, according to a report by Cartoon Brew.^[1] Chris Viscardi, Senior Vice President of content development and production for animation at Nickelodeon said in a statement:

As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products and the Zim comic books. What makes this announcement extra thrilling is the adventure that Jhonen has created for Zim, and I can promise you that it is as wonderfully absurd and strangely heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for, and kids seeing it for the first time will love it too.

On July 20th, 2018, series creator Jhonen Vasquez, art director Jenny Goldberg, and voice actors Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Wally Wingert (Almighty Tallest Red) and Kevin McDonald (Almighty Tallest Purple) appeared on stage at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the project, The following month, Nickelodeon published the panel on YouTube. The video received more than 110,000 views in one year (shown below, right).

On July 23rd, 2019, Netflix announced that the film would be airing on the video-streaming service on August 16th, 2019. The video teaser that accompanied the announcement received more than 68,000 likes, 24,000 retweets and 1 million views in 24 hours (shown below).
