About

Hannah Hillam's Webcomics is a series of webcomics by San Francisco-based cartoonist Hannah Hillam. The comics have been praised for their humorous look at day-to-day life and life with cats, and one strip has become an exploitable template for anxieties and fears.

History

Hillam began blogging under the handle Verbal Vomit[1] on November 20th, 2009. There, she began posting illustrations of her stories (examples shown below).[2] She would also post comics under the title Verbal Vomit for some time before going solely by her name.

She joined Twitter in July of 2010[3] and Tumblr[5] on February 24th, 2011. Over the course of the 2010s, she has drawn comics for Buzzfeed[4] and publications including Bored Panda,[6] Memebase,[7] and Awesome Inventions[8] have run compilations of her comics (examples shown below).

Online Presence

Hillam is most popular on Instagram,[9] where she has over 592,000 followers. She also has over 3,800 followers on Twitter[3] and a Facebook page with over 33,000 likes.[10]

Are You Going to Sleep?

On June 12th, 2017, Hillam posted a comic for Buzzfeed[11] depicting a conversation between herself and her brain. While attempting to go to sleep, her brain says "Think about all the ways you could get murdered!" causing the main character to jolt awake (shown below).

Over the following several years, the comic became an exploitable, where the brain's statement would be changed to something anxiety-inducing, a la the One Fear exploitable. An example was included in an Imgur meme dump posted June 25th, 2018 by user MissJKS94[12] (shown below, left). Another posted the same day to /r/dankmemes[13] gained over 20,000 points (shown below, right).
