Dubai Chocolate Bar, also known as Dubai Chocolate Trend, refers to a chocolate bar with a filling made of knafeh (a traditional Arab dessert) and pistachio. The dessert was created by Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai in 2021 and popularized in late December 2023 after being promoted by influencers on social media, especially TikTok. The food product's viral success also inspired memes and jokes regarding the pistachio filling inside the chocolate bar as TikTokers humorously replaced the ingredient with other materials like grass and sand.

Origin

According to a CNN Travel article from June 18th, 2024, the Dubai chocolate bar was coined in 2021 by Sarah Hamouda, founder of the Fix Dessert Chocolatier company.^[1] The product features crispy kataifi, pistachio and tahini paste, all wrapped up in a casing of milk chocolate (example below).

The success of the product can be tracked to a TikTok^[2] post from December 18th, 2023, by influencer @mariavehera257, who shared a video eating the Dubai chocolate bar inside a car (seen below), amassing over 120 million views and 6 million plays in two years.

TikToker @mariavehera257's promotional post of the Dubai chocolate bar led to a surge in demand for the product, as well as inspiring memes replacing the bar's fillings with other materials like grass and sand.

For instance, on September 28th, 2024, TikTok^[3] user @ruben_fn_live posted a video pretending to split a Dubai chocolate bar in half, only to show literal grass inside the dessert (seen below). The post amassed more than 649,000 plays and 12,000 likes in a year.

On December 11th, 2024, YouTuber^[4] @KyleIstook posted a short autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) video recreating the Dubai chocolate bar. The video (seen below) received roughly 802,000 views and 32,000 likes in four months.
