About
Dorohedoro was a long-running manga series created by Q Hayashida. It tells the tale of Caiman, a reptilian-headed man with no memory working to discover his past after his memory was taken and his head was transformed into a reptile's by a sorcerer. The series ran from 2000 to 2018 before concluding at 167 total chapters. The tale was later adapted into an anime that debuted in January of 2020.
History
The first chapter of Dorohedoro was published in Monthly Ikki in 2000,[1] where it ran for 14 years until the publication's ceased publication in 2014. The series then ran in Hibana from 2015-2017, and finished in Monthly Shonen Sunday. The series has also been released in 23 individual volumes (examples shown below).
Anime
The end of the manga came with the announcement that an anime series was in development.[2] The series' first trailer was released on October 11th, 2019, gaining over 1.1 million views (shown below). The series debuted on January 12th, 2020 and has released two episodes as of January 22nd, 2020.
Online Presence
The series has developed a prominent fandom online. The series' subreddit has gained over 2,000 members since its creation in November of 2013.[3] On Facebook,[4] the series has 900 likes. The anime has also inspired the creation of memes in /r/Animemes. A video parody posted by absolutetext on January 21st gained over 170 points in a day (shown below).
