About
Dale & Dawson Stationary Supplies is the name of an Among Us style video game in which players try to work together to complete objectives under the watchful eyes of another player who's designated as the manager, while slackers try their hardest to cause mayhem and avoid being caught. Due to the unique twist on the recognizable formula and references to the TV series The Office, shortly after its launch, various Twitch streamers, YouTubers and content creators started to collaborate with each other in matches, leading to a spike in the game's virality in September 2024.
History
On August 28th, 2024, game developer Striped Panda Studios released a short 20-second trailer for its upcoming video game, Dale & Dawson Stationary Supplies, to the company's official YouTube[1] channel. In the trailer, different activities are showcased while also demonstrating the core gameplay mechanics and rules (shown below).
The trailer would be followed up by the game officially releasing on Steam the following day.
Online Presence
After the game had been released in late August 2024, it was quickly picked up by different streamers who began livestreaming Dale & Dawson Stationary Supplies with their friends and other content creators, similar to the Among Us meta that took over Twitch during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For example, on September 1st, 2024, streamer and content creator xQc uploaded a long-form video of him playing through multiple rounds of the game to his official channel[2] with different roles and tasks being shown as he earned 118,000 views in two weeks (shown below).
A few days after xQc uploaded his video of playing the game, other content creators started to get on the trend as well. On September 5th, 2024, YouTuber MM7 Games[3] uploaded a video of him playing the game, showing off the perspective of a Slacker and earning over 620,000 views in two weeks (shown below).
On September 8th, Twitch streamer PaymoneyWubby also played Dale & Dawson Stationary Supplies during one of his livestreams with several friends, including fellow streamer Will Neff. The stream was uploaded to the PaymoneyWubby Highlights YouTube[4] channel on September 11th, 2024, receiving over 162,000 views, 5,700 likes and 170 comments in eight days (seen below).
Numerous videos depicting livestreams, gameplay clips, memes and other content related to Dale & Dawson Stationary Supplies also appeared on TikTok[5] in September 2024 as the game went viral online (examples shown below).
A dedicated subreddit for the game, /r/DaleAndDawson,[6] was created on September 1st, 2024, and accumulated nearly 400 members in roughly three weeks.
